Frequently Asked Questions
The Ribbon Research Open is an annual charity golf tournament presented by Nu-Tek BioSciences and The Hormel Institute. It's held at the Austin Country Club in Austin, Minnesota, and all proceeds support cancer research at the Institute.
The 2026 Ribbon Research Open is scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026 at the Austin Country Club in Austin, Minnesota.
Teams consist of four players. Registration details and sponsorship opportunities are available through the registration section above or by contacting trro@nu-tekbioscience.com. Don't have a full team? Sign up individually and we can match you with others.
100% of all proceeds raised go directly to cancer research at The Hormel Institute. Thanks to the support of The Hormel Foundation, every dollar received is used exclusively for research—not for administrative overhead.
The Ribbon Research Open supports research on ALL types of cancer at The Hormel Institute, including breast, prostate, lung, skin, brain, and lesser-known cancers. No matter what type of cancer has affected your family, your participation helps fight it.
Not at all! Whether you're a seasoned golfer or just passionate about supporting cancer research, this event is for you. It's a four-person team format with an emphasis on camaraderie and fun.
The tournament is organized as a team event, typically played in a scramble format. Each player in the foursome hits a tee shot, the team selects the best shot, and all players hit from that spot—making it friendly for golfers of all abilities.
Your registration includes 18 holes of golf with a shared cart, a welcome bag with event-branded merchandise, on-course refreshments, and access to the post-golf reception and prizes.
The event will go on, rain or shine, with safety as the priority. In 2025, heavy rain moved the event indoors to The Hormel Institute, and the community still raised over $30,000. The fundraiser and community celebration will take place in some form regardless of weather.
Absolutely. The Ribbon Research Open is designed as a way for friends and family to remember or honor loved ones impacted by cancer. The event carries forward the legacy of many individual memorial tournaments that previously supported The Hormel Institute. Make a dedication to have their name displayed at the event.
Yes! There are multiple ways to get involved including sponsorships, volunteering, or contributing directly through The Ribbon Research Open at BetterWorld.
Businesses can register a team, sponsor the event at various levels, or provide in-kind support (raffle prizes, gift bag items, catering). Contact trro@nu-tekbioscience.com for the sponsorship packet.
The Ribbon Research Open is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You will receive an acknowledgement for your records.
